A New Role for AIPAC: Global Jewish Security and Justice for Palestinians
The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) has long served a critical role in ensuring the safety and strength of Israel. Now, it stands at a unique crossroads. It can evolve into an organization that not only protects Israeli interests but also becomes a global force for Jewish safety and Palestinian justice.
Historic Context: How AIPAC Helped Build Israel’s Security
On June 5, 1967, Israel launched a series of preemptive airstrikes against Egypt, gaining immediate air superiority and seizing critical territories: the Golan Heights from Syria, the West Bank (including East Jerusalem) from Jordan, and Gaza and the Sinai Peninsula from Egypt (Source).
Following this historic war, Israel emerged as the dominant military power in the Middle East. With its strength solidified, AIPAC had successfully fulfilled its mission of ensuring Israel’s survival and defense.
Jewish Historical Struggles and the Dream of Safety
For over 3,000 years, Jews have faced persecution—from expulsions in Spain to the horrors of the Holocaust. Their longing for a safe homeland was finally realized, at least partially, with the establishment of Israel. However, global Jewish safety remains a vital concern.
AIPAC now has the opportunity to become the catalyst for universal Jewish security—not just through defense but through diplomacy and dialogue.
The Shift AIPAC Needs to Make: From Lobbying to Lasting Peace
Unconditional lobbying and military-backed dominance may no longer serve Jewish security. In fact, lasting peace and mutual respect with Palestinians are essential.
Security for Jews will not come from “pushing Palestinians from the river to the sea.” Instead, it lies in embracing Palestinians as equal humans deserving dignity, freedom, and hope.
Reimagining the Future: AIPAC and the Israel-Palestine Confederation
One powerful concept worth exploring is the Israel-Palestine Confederation. If Ireland and the UK could find common ground, so can Israelis and Palestinians. AIPAC can become a pioneer in championing this idea, helping both peoples achieve freedom without fear.
Restoring Palestinian Dignity and Rights
The Palestinian struggle for basic rights—freedom, dignity, and self-determination—has been ignored for decades. Sadly, many Israelis who themselves endured suffering often fail to empathize with Palestinians.
The existence of checkpoints, separation walls, and systemic control erode not just Palestinian lives, but Israeli morality.
Media Bias and Dehumanization
Western media too often portray Palestinians in a dehumanized, one-dimensional light. It’s time for balanced, fair coverage that honors both Israeli and Palestinian lives equally.
From Conflict to Compassion: The Power of Good People
Evil acts—from genocides to terror—have historically been initiated by small groups. But so have movements of peace and justice.
As Margaret Mead said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.” AIPAC has the resources and reach to be that group.
The U.S. Must Recognize Palestine’s Sovereignty
True peace starts with recognition. The U.S. must acknowledge Palestine’s right to exist. Doing so would strengthen Israeli security, promote U.S. credibility, and help resolve the broader Middle East conflict.
Wisdom in Ancient Proverbs and Scriptures
As a Chinese proverb teaches: “If you want to eliminate your enemy, make friends with them.” This isn’t just wise—it’s strategic. AIPAC can channel funds and influence toward building alliances rather than walls.
Until justice and human rights are restored to Palestinians, global Jewish security will remain fragile.
Leadership Failures and the Price of Ignoring Humanity
President Biden’s recent veto against a ceasefire resolution—despite support from 191 nations—alienated global allies. Nearly 30,000 Palestinians and 1,200 Israelis have died. Leadership must be held accountable.
As Maya Angelou said, “People will never forget how you made them feel.”
Hamas, Accountability, and Our Shared Guilt
Hamas initiated violence, killing 1,200 Israelis. But the world also failed Palestinians—dispossessed, displaced, and desperate. This failure created the conditions for conflict.
We must hold extremists accountable while acknowledging our collective responsibility for letting injustice fester.
A Personal Plea for Humanity and Reconciliation
I ask for forgiveness—for the genocide of Palestinians and the deaths of innocent Israelis. May future generations say, “Our grandfather spoke up.”
As Chief Seattle wisely stated, “Whatever he does to the web, he does it to himself.”
The Role of Religion: Choosing Life and Peace
The Torah and Quran both teach: “Saving one life is like saving all of humanity.” Pro-life movements must embrace this fully—across nationalities and religions.
Peacemakers are truly blessed, and the time has come to act in their spirit.
Conclusion: AIPAC’s New Mission—Justice, Peace, and Eternal Security
AIPAC is uniquely positioned to foster security for Jews and justice for Palestinians. By shifting from lobbying to listening, from force to friendship, it can secure peace for the next thousand years.
